Ideas for SalesPad Desktop

Document release triggers workflow steps

The SalesPad Web API does not trigger workflow steps when triggering a document forward. This could be because the forward action is intended to be for skipping workflow steps, but the API should also support actual document release to trigger forwards. We use this method to automate forwarding documents when they are updated by third-party systems or other processes to automatically forward. This saves us time forwarding boxes that can be spent on more valuable activities processing orders.

    Grant,

You are getting copied on all the comments due to voting for the idea to be supported.  I can pull you off if you like.

    Hey Jacob,

I think you’ve swapped us Grants within our company. To ensure Grant in IT gets these emails please direct them to Grant Peterson. :)

    Thanks!

    Alex,

Unfortunately, we aren't able to make the emailing functionality work with Smart Printing and the Web API.  I'm working on getting a list of exactly which plugins are supported and to what extent.

    Jacob,

That is exactly the circumstance we find ourselves in. When we perform this workflow transition, we are using the Smart Print plugin almost exclusively to send emails. Salespad Desktop version is 4.6.1.2

    Alex,

So I found out there is a caveat with smart printing.  It will only work if you are printing documents but not if you are trying to email them.  The issue is in how the email code is interwoven into the UI.  Can you confirm what actions you were trying to do within smart printing?  Also, SalesPad version plays a role in this working as well.

I'm with Grant. We've update our version of the SalesPad Web API to 1.0.0.6 and tried to forward an order with the Workflows API endpoint. It forwarded the sales document to the next queue, but it didn't trigger the workflow plugin. The workflow plugin we were trying to use is Smart Printing. I'm not sure what the issue is.

Jacob- we apparently aren't updated to the latest version of the API. I will get that taken care of, and we can evaluate if we still have a problem after that. Stay tuned!

    Grant,

Check and see what version of the Web API you are using.  I checked with our team and the workflow forward action went into the last release of 2017 for the Web API, version 1.0.0.6.  With that in mind, it sill does not support all workflow plugins though.  Currently, there are only two supported workflow plugins, Smart Printing and Run Script workflow plugins.  Is that the issue that you are seeing, it not running a workflow plugin?

    Grant,

I believe it has been released, but I'll double check for you and confirm.

    Jacob,

Has this been implemented? We are still not able to use workflows via the API to their fullest extent with the forward action being broken.

After further evaluation, we are going to go ahead and add this to the production schedule for the fall release.  We'll be in touch when we have a more solid timeline.
