Pull FIFO layer costs on sales orders

When creating a sales order, the current cost field from the GP Item Card is recorded as the unit cost.  When that sales order is posted in GP, the FIFO layer cost replaces the current cost.  We have many stores and each store purchases differently.  The current cost on the item card fluctuates daily.  It would be nice if we could look at the FIFO layer for the item being sold and pull a cost from there, knowing that that FIFO layer will be looked at again when the sales document is posted.  Showing a FIFO layer cost, even if that layer may be gone and a new layer is in use when the document is posted will be a much better cost field to show on SalesPad reports showing un-posted documents than the current cost field does.

We can already accomplish this by using the profitability plugin.  There is security that allows you to enable showing receipts within the plugin.  So when you open the profitability plugin, for each line on the sales document, you can see your last 5 receipts along with cost, allowing the user to adjust the price/margin accordingly.   Here is the documentation on the profitability plugin.  Profitability Plugin

We do over 1,000 sales orders a day in a retail environment.  Asking our counter personnel (who don't have a clue what a FIFO layer is) to open the Profitability plugin every time add a line to a sales order is not practical.  It has to happen automatically.

Any update on this functionality? Like D. Ray Palmer, we process a large volume of sales orders and can't expect our personnel to learn what a FIFO cost means and choose the right cost to pull from. It would help if SalesPad could integrate that information at the order level, knowing that if it eventually gets invoiced at a later date and the FIFO cost has changed, the overall and line item margins may also change slightly. Thank you.

It is critically important that the functionality be integrated that we can choose which method of calculating margin Salespad utilizes.

It should be programmed to be as simple as selecting which cost to pull from- I can't imagine this would be difficult- but would really like to see this integrated into Salespad as well. Our salespeople know what to look for, margins. Asking for much more....isn't practical.

Any more thought on pulling FIFO layer costs on Sales Orders and Invoices?

    Mr Palmer,

Can you give me some more detail of what you are trying to accomplish with having the cost show?  Are your users manually setting the price based on the cost?  In your comment previously, you mentioned the large number of transactions and the impracticality of using the profitability plugin, so I'm just not clear on what you're trying to accomplish by pulling a more accurate cost.

    Thanks
